It’s okay to be sad that summer’s over. But, as you put away the flip-flops and Bermuda shorts, just remember that fall can be an absolute blast! Before the weather get too cold, get out and enjoy this wonderful season with your work team. Still drawing a blank on autumn ideas? You’re in luck. Keep reading to check out our top recommendations.

1. Oktoberfest!

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that our #1 involves enjoying an alcoholic beverage or two. Embrace the fun of fall by sampling seasonal beers from the beer tent and enjoying some tube-shaped meats. Bust out the lederhosen and have a great time!

2. Go to a haunted house.

There’s nothing that bonds an office team faster than screaming at chainsaw-wielding ghosts in creepy houses. While you’re at it, you might as well all dress up in your favorite costumes! Feeling like a kid will bring out the fun, playful side of your crew.

3. Pumpkin everything!

Whether you call it fall or autumn, embrace the season of cardigans by “pumpkinizing” everything in your life. Head to the nearest pumpkin patch and have everyone pick out their own favorite pumpkin. Drink some PSLs. Then cap it off with a pumpkin carving contest.

4. Go tailgating and build team spirit!

Whether you’ve got a college team in town or you have to slum it in the parking lot of the seventh grade JV team, bust out the grills and coolers and get the party started! Once you start having fun with your team, it won’t matter what team wins on the field...the real victory was getting everyone together in the first place.

5. Try the ol’ evening hayride & campfire.

Despite picking up the inevitable “smokey scent” in your clothes and hair afterward, nothing compares to a warm, melty s’more made around a campfire. Do this on someone’s property who has a tractor to pull your team on a hayride around the fields.

6. Have a Thanksgiving pitch-in.

Like it or not, you probably spend more time with your workmates than you do your extended family. Since Thanksgiving comes with a season of gratitude, set up a communal meal together where you each take turns expressing thanks for one another. This doesn’t have to get all mushy (although it can certainly end up there...). A surprising number of us thrive on words of affirmation!

7. Get artistic at a paint bar.

Seek out one of those artsy, hip venues that offers wine and painting where everyone is tasked with painting the same scene. Believe it or not, this really does help people loosen up, let their hair down, and reveal their inner creativity. And, let’s not forget, there will be wine. It’s a win-win...or should I say wine-wine?

8. Take a hike and catch some fresh air!

Everyone knows the fall is for hiking, or more specifically, for catching that once a year panoramic view of the beautiful fall foliage. If you live in an area with fabulous foliage, find your nearest state park or hiking path with a not-too-challenging trail. Get out of the office and into nature and breathe in the crisp fall air.

9. Rainy day? Head to a museum.

Just because the weather doesn’t cooperate doesn’t mean you have to stay cooped up in your office. Fight back and get reservations for an art or history museum tour. Depending on the size of your team, you may even qualify for a group rate!

10. Play football.

Does the sales team talk smack about the accounting team? Settle it on the field with a (friendly) game of flag football. You can do this over lunch or even make a full-day event out of it. For those who don’t want to participate on the field, consider holding a fantasy football draft of your fellow staff players.

Fall can be loads of fun. Make sure to get outside with your team while you can before the deep freeze sets in. These fall team building activities can really get your team momentum headed in the right direction!
